C4 CBRN FAQs

What is the AirBoss C4 Gas Mask used for?

The C4 is designed for military, law-enforcement, and emergency-response operations where protection from chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) threats is required. It also provides protection from many toxic industrial chemicals (TICs).

Is the C4 Gas Mask NIOSH approved?

Yes. The C4 is NIOSH-approved (when used with specific filters) and has been operationally proven in global deployments for over a decade.

What type of filters does the C4 use?

The C4 uses standard 40 mm NATO-thread (EN 148-1) filters. It is compatible with AirBoss CBRN CAP 1, M96, FR-C2A1, and HE P100 filters, as well as most other approved 40 mm CBRN cartridges.

How long does a C4 filter last?

Filter life depends on the environment and level of contamination. In clean air, filters may last several hours of continuous use; in high-contamination zones, they should be replaced immediately after exposure. Always follow local SOPs and AirBoss guidelines for replacement intervals.

Can I use my C4 CBRN Gas Mask with a beard?

Facial hair, sideburns, bangs and headwear may prevent a protective facepiece from forming and/or maintaining a tight-fitting seal on someone’s face. We recommend that be clean shaven and/or have your hair pulled back for sizing purposes and using the respirator to ensure an appropriate seal.

Can I drink water while wearing the mask?

Yes. The C4 includes a built-in hydration port compatible with CBRN canteens and CamelBak® systems for safe hydration in contaminated environments.

Does the C4 support prescription lenses?

Yes. An optional optical insert carrier allows the user to fit single-vision prescription (Rx) lenses that clip inside the mask.

Is the C4 voice-communication capable?

Yes. It features front and side speech transmitters and is compatible with the AirBoss Voice Projection Unit (VPU) for clear communication in the field.

What sizes are available?

The C4 is offered in four sizes (Extra Small, Small, Medium, Large) to ensure a secure, comfortable seal for different users.

How should the mask be stored?

Store the mask in its sealed vacuum foil bag or protective case in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. When sealed and properly stored, the mask has a 15-year shelf life.

Can the C4 be decontaminated and reused?

Yes. The mask can be decontaminated using approved CBRN cleaning agents. Always remove and dispose of filters after exposure and follow your organization’s decontamination procedures.
